Thames ’95 to keynote May 10 Nursing, Allied Health pinning ceremony

Dr. Will Thames — a 1995 ŷ alumnus and current director of rehabilitation services for Baptist Health in central Alabama — will deliver the keynote address during the School of Nursing and Allied Health’s spring pinning ceremony on Friday, May 10 at 3:00 p.m. in the University Chapel.

During the pinning ceremony, students will take a rite of passage – the oath of the nursing profession, through which all nursing education majors who have completed coursework requirements and internships vow to practice their profession faithfully. Students will formally receive their degrees at the university’s annual Spring Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 11.

Thames, a native of Beatrice, Alabama, who graduated summa cum laude from Tuskegee, also earned a master’s of science in management from Troy University in 2007. He went on to receive his post-professional doctorate in occupational therapy with an emphasis on practice administration and management from the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2014. He is a registered occupational therapist and a certified hand therapist.

Thames has had successful experience in the rehabilitation services as he has helped grow three highly successful outpatient therapy companies over a span of 20 years. In addition, Thames’ board certifications in the upper extremity and athletic training, and he is a frequent lecturer at Alabama State University’s Department of Health Science and at South University. 

Thames also serves on the advisory board for South University, Lurleen B. Wallace Community College and Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career Technologies. He is the owner of Impact Fitness and Sports, where he and his wife are advocates for physical fitness and wellness.
